Thinking About Purchasing A Sea Scooter or Dive Scooter?
Sea Scooters or PWP’s (Personal Water Propellers) , or DPV’s (Diver Propulsion Vehicles) are small hand held water crafts used by swimmers or divers to move through the water, typically between 2 and 5 MPH. Not only will they save effort, air, and time for divers but they are a blast for casual recreation and will even give you a bit of a work out while skimming around in the water. It is not difficult to keep your head above the surface while in operation if that is what you desire.
It can be confusing trying to find the right sea scooter with so many now on the market. This article will attempt to relate the information we have found useful when shopping for a Sea Scooter. Our experience is recreation related so if you plan to be deep sea diving, or going deeper than the average snorkeler please do further research with regard to safety and SCUBA certification. Changing your elevation quickly underwater can be deadly if you lack the experience and training involved.
That said, let’s get on with the fun stuff. There are basically three categories of Sea Scooters in our opinion, Scooters suited for children, adults, or professionals.

Tusa DPV vs. Apollo DPV
My favorite sea underwater scooter is the Tusa SAV-7 Underwater Scooter. This underwater scooter is high quality scuba diving equipment that provides everything that any serious diver needs at the fraction of the price of some of the more advanced underwater sea scooters such as the Apollo AV-2 Evolution DPV Scooter. The cost of the Tusa Sav-7 Underwater scooter is about 1/5 of the price of the Apollo AV-2 Evolution DPV Scooter, but has similar features. What makes the Apollo AV-2 Evolution so expensive is that it last approximately 120 minutes. What I recommend doing to save you some serious money, is to buy the much cheaper Tusa Sav-7 Underwater scooter, and then just buy another battery. Doing this will save you thousands of dollars. Now, by all means, if you want to be able to go on a 2 hour adventure without having to stop to replace a battery, then buy the Apollo AV-2 Evolution DPV underwater Scooter. I just think it is a much better investment to buy the much cheaper Tusa Sav-7 diver propulsion vehicle with an extra battery or two.
Now, let me explain what I love about the Tusa Sav-7 underwater scooter. This scooter is able to carry up to three people at a time without the performance being lowered. The sea scooter will move just as well with one person, as it will with three since it is such a high quality piece of diving equipment.
The absolute best part about the Tusa Sav-7 underwater scooter is that it is designed to be used hands free! This is one of the very few underwater scooters on the market that are designed this way. You simply keep the scooter between your legs. This may seem extremely awkward, but it actually feels natural once you do it. This allows you to feel like you are a fish of some kind while you are snorkeling or scuba diving; seriously, it’s a cool feeling. These free hands allow you to carry a camera so you can capture anything unique that you see. If you are interested in spear fishing, then this is the underwater scooter for you as the free hands allow you catch fish.
Tips for keeping your electric sea scooter running well.
1. Stock up on waterproof marine tape and put a ring of tape around the outside of the nose cone where it meets the lower half of the scooter before use. You can either put it under the left and right connectors (latches) which hold the nose cone in place, or over the nose cone latches once the scooter is assembled.
The other place I put tape especially prior to salt water use is over the battery air release screw and I even tape up the vent holes on the nose cone, basically eliminating any water flowing inside the nose cone and around the buoyancy chamber of the scooter. This seems to prevent flooding and cut down on drag which makes a big difference in performance.
2. Put a small bead of water proof caulk like the type used in showers, around the rim of the plastic battery housing and in the screw holes that connect the battery housing pieces to the control board section of the scooter.
3. Always rinse off your sea scooter with fresh hose water if you have used it in a lake or salt water, the salt or natural minerals can easily build up and rust screws or clog parts of the scooter.
If your hobby is scuba diving or you are water enthusiast you should definitely try one of those 10 underwater scooters. Every scooter has own unique price and specifications, you will be able to find one that is best for you. Some entry level Seadoo sea scooters are perfect for beginners or for kids. You can use them in pool as well. Sea Doo Dolphin, Yamaha Explorer, and Aqua ranger are perfect entry level scooters.
Mid range and little bit more powerful and professional scooters are: Sea Doo GTI, Supercharged VS and Yamaha RDS 200. They cost little bit more than entry level ones, but for change you got more power, speed and max depth underwater.
If you interested in fastest SeaDoo and underwater scooters in general then you should consider buying Sea doo rs1 or sea doo rs3. Both of them have amazing speed propellers and they are value for money. Last one is high end and high price one. It has amazing 250 feet underwater limit for 3 persons at once. This one is for professional scuba divers and explorers.
